by Natalie Wilson – Best Bamboo Guide
Buying the right mattress can be a life-changing experience. Now, you may think that we’re exaggerating when we say this, but it can’t be emphasized more. When you sleep, you’re essentially determining in advance how you’re going to feel for the next day depending on your level of rest.
Your productivity at work, for example, can depend on how much rest you get. How alert (and by extension, how safe) you are when driving to work will also be linked to your rest. But the amount of time for which you sleep isn’t the only thing you need to consider when it comes to rest.
The feeling of restfulness comes from the REM stage of sleep, which isn’t all that much of it relative to your entire sleep cycle. If your REM cycle is interrupted by discomfort, then you won’t feel rested. Bamboo mattresses are some of the most comfortable ones out there, and they can help you get far superior rest. Today, we’re going to review the Brentwood Home Cypress model.
- Available in an 11-inch or 13-inch layout
- Gel memory foam top layer
- Ideal for those who sleep on their stomach
- Uses non-toxic materials
Top Layer of Gel Memory Foam
The top layer of the mattress is usually the most important because it’s the one that you’re going to be in direct contact with while you sleep. Even though the cover and the sheets will be between you and this layer, they won’t provide the level of support that you get from the top of your mattress.
In the Brentwood Home Cypress mattress, the upper part of the mattress features 2.5 inches of gel memory foam. The combination of gel and memory foam ensures that you’ll be able to sink into the bed while still providing necessary support for your back’s health.
This layer of the bed ensures that motion won’t be transferred from one side of the bed to the other, so you won’t have any problems with your spouse waking up because of you. Another benefit is that the gel memory foam is quite simply comfortable, which is always a plus in the top layer.
The AirFlow Zone
The next layer down from the gel memory foam is a part of the mattress that is known as the ventilated airflow zone. As you can imagine, this part of the mattress features several air channels which will ensure that the air in your bed doesn’t get stale and stagnant as it accumulates your body heat.
When cool air comes into the mattress, it helps keep it at a constant temperature, so it doesn’t gradually heat up over the course of the night, which is a common issue. If you have trouble sleeping in the summer, then the airflow zone will ensure that you don’t overheat and sweat.
Base Foam Layer
Base Foam Layer
Finally, there’s the base layer of foam in this bed, which is designed to mainly provide enough support for the rest of the structure. Without this part of the bed, everything would collapse, but the base is responsible for more than just support, and many buyers don’t realize how crucial it can be.
For example, the dense foam used in the bottom layer helps prevent motion from being transferred across the bed, keeping it in your area instead. This part of the mattress will also prevent the bed from making noise when you move around, as the thick foam is excellent at dampening any sounds.
New Zealand Wool Bed Cover
Finally, the cover of this mattress is another excellent feature, as it’s made of New Zealand wool and rayon from bamboo. Both of these materials work together to ensure that your body’s temperature is regulated while you sleep, working more effectively than just bamboo alone.
Also, the New Zealand wool helps the rayon wick moisture away, so your bed won’t get all damp and unpleasant after an unusually hot night. The bed cover goes a long way towards helping you sleep, even when it’s covered by sheets, but bamboo fiber sheets will make it work even better.
Pros and Cons
You may also be interested in which specific aspects we saw as advantageous and whether or not this bed has any issues that you should be aware of, so let’s get into it.
Here are some of the main advantages that this mattress has over others:
- Medium-Firm: It has long been known that firmer mattresses are better for your spinal health because they provide more support than soft ones.
- CertiPUR Seal: Since this mattress has been certified as safe, you won’t have to worry about toxicity, or any other possible hazards due to it.
- Quality Workmanship: One of the best parts of this mattress is how much work has gone into assembling it perfectly, with the build quality soaring as a result.
If you’re wondering about the downsides of this mattress, there aren’t many to discuss. Unfortunately, temperature control seems to be an issue if you don’t use bedding that is designed to regulate it. For this reason, we would recommend a bamboo topper, bamboo sheets, or something similar.
What Customers Have to Say
So what do customers think of this mattress? The vast majority of buyers were highly impressed with the quality of this model and mentioned how it helped them get much better rest than other beds. Customers with backaches and arthritis especially claimed that this mattress helped them manage their conditions.
Of course, not all of the reviews were positive, and some customers complained about the temperature management, which is a flaw that we also noticed. It seems like this mattress getting too hot or cold is the only major issue you’ll come across with it.
For those of you that are looking for a bit of a firmer bamboo mattress to provide additional support, the Brentwood Home Cypress will work perfectly. We hope that this guide has taught you what you wanted to know about this mattress model.

When I’m not studying up on the latest eco-friendly ways to produce everyday items (particularly using bamboo), you can find me playing trivia at a local bar, or hanging out at the beach.
I love the idea of using an abundant resource like bamboo to make a huge varieties of items we use everyday. Particularly when those are currently being made with plastic, or plants that require pesticides and a huge amount of water to grow.
Hopefully this site will inspire people to think about ways they can improve their sleep, decrease the strain they put on the environment, and generally get better, long-lasting products that are also sustainable and of higher quality than the products they are used to.
