by Natalie Wilson – Best Bamboo Guide
Your bed is one of the most important fixtures in your house, and it’s often overlooked in favor of other things. In fact, your bed should be your number-one priority when you’re furnishing your home, and you’ll want to be sure that you can get a good night’s rest out of it without tossing and turning all night.
As you can imagine, your bedding plays a significant role, but it pales in comparison to the importance of the mattress itself. When you want to make sure that you’re well rested throughout the day, you’re going to have to be sure that your bed isn’t actively working against you to ruin it.
One of the best types of mattresses is the variety that’s made of bamboo, for a wide range of reasons that you’ll see throughout this review. We’ll be covering the Cariloha bamboo mattress, which is one of the top models on the market both in terms of comfort and cleanliness, and while it’s more expensive than some other options, it is totally worth it in our opinion.
- Provides pressure relief on key pressure points
- Prevents the build up of odor
- Extra comfortable
- Has five distinct support layers
Top Layer Provides Comfort
One of the most critical elements to look for in your new mattress is a suitable degree of comfort, and this model from Cariloha is one of the comfiest bamboo mattresses available according to consumer reviews. While bamboo mattresses, in general, may be soft, the specific formulation that Cariloha uses manages to edge out the competition.
In specific, the top layer is designed to be exceptionally soft, being made of bamboo charcoal memory foam. This type of memory foam uses a blend of carbonized bamboo which has been treated at extremely high temperatures and then mixed with the foam itself to provide exceptional comfort.
While basic memory foam may be relatively coarse yet extremely plushy, you’ll find that the kind which has bamboo blended into it is also extremely soft. This top layer ensures that you won’t have any trouble with comfort, though you’ll necessarily lose out on some support for your back.
Second Layer of Luxury Memory Foam
This mattress’ second layer is made up of standard memory foam, so you won’t have to worry about the mattress exerting pressure on your back. When there are coils or springs in a mattress, they’ll naturally be pushing upwards, which will cause the bed to press up against your pressure points.
Memory foam avoids doing this by contouring itself to match the shape of your body, even if it is located deeper down inside the mattress. If you want the most support possible, this layout may not be ideal for you, but if you prefer comfort in your bed, you’ll feel like you’re sleeping on a cloud.
Side Wedge Support
One of the more unique aspects of this mattress is that it features blocks of denser foam along the sides to provide additional edge support. Traditionally, one of the most significant downsides to memory foam mattresses is that they don’t have enough edge support and this helps alleviate the issue.
You can sleep on the edges of the mattress without having to feel like you’re about to be dumped on the floor thanks to these reinforcements. You’ll also be able to wake up in the morning and sit on the edge of the bed so that you can get dressed or tie your shoes instead of having to get off the mattress entirely.
Flex-Flow Base Foam
The Flex-Flow base foam is designed to stay flexible as well as providing additional airflow, as you would imagine based on the name. The top half of this layer is a low-density foam layer that has air channels cut into it while the bottom half is a denser block of foam that provides the needed support.
The top layer of the foam ensures that fresh air can come into the mattress and replace the warm air that’s been accumulating in there, resulting in a hot bed. The lower level of this part of the bed is designed to support the rest of it, ensuring that it doesn’t get lopsided or deform over time.
Pros and Cons
We’re also going to be briefly covering some of the key pros and cons of this mattress, though we’ll warn you now that there are many more pros than cons to this model.
Here are some of the main advantages of the Cariloha Bamboo Mattress:
- Resistant to Smells and Dust Mites: This mattress is meant to prevent the buildup of smells, and it also repels dust mites to ensure that you can use it for a long time to come.
- Eco-Friendly: CertiPUR certification means that this mattress is better for the environment as well as safe for you to use due to a lack of toxic substances.
- Restful Sleep: The combination of comfortable layers and cooling channels means that you won’t be bothered by discomfort or temperature at night.
While this mattress may have a few drawbacks, you’ll find that it doesn’t suffer from too many of them. For example, this model is a little more expensive than some of the other ones on the market, so you’ll have to be ready to pay for the superior quality that you get out of it. Apart from that, there aren’t many issues.
What Customers Have to Say?
After exploring consumer reviews about this product, we also have a pretty good idea of how well it was received by the buyers. Most of them were extremely satisfied with their purchase and recommended this bed due to its impressive level of comfort but also its safe and eco-friendly composition.
While some buyers groaned about the price, the most common criticism from them was that there isn’t enough firmness to provide support for those with back issues in rare cases. Seeing as this is an issue of preference, there isn’t much that can be done to correct it.
A new mattress can change your life in more ways than you think, so give the Cariloha Bamboo Mattress a shot if you prefer quality, even at a higher price. We hope that this review has managed to help you out.

When I’m not studying up on the latest eco-friendly ways to produce everyday items (particularly using bamboo), you can find me playing trivia at a local bar, or hanging out at the beach.
I love the idea of using an abundant resource like bamboo to make a huge varieties of items we use everyday. Particularly when those are currently being made with plastic, or plants that require pesticides and a huge amount of water to grow.
Hopefully this site will inspire people to think about ways they can improve their sleep, decrease the strain they put on the environment, and generally get better, long-lasting products that are also sustainable and of higher quality than the products they are used to.
